President Volodymyr Zelensky has a packed agenda for the fall, centered on two key military objectives: finalizing a new arms deal with the US for long-range weapons and receiving two more Patriot air defense systems. These initiatives are designed to significantly bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities heading into the winter months.
The arms deal was set in motion after Zelensky’s meeting with US President Donald Trump. A Ukrainian delegation will travel to Washington in late September or early October to work on the “practical implementation” of the agreement to purchase long-range arms. This is a top priority for Kyiv and will be in addition to a $90 billion aid package.
In parallel, Ukraine’s defensive shield is being strengthened. Zelensky announced that following the delivery of one Patriot system from Israel a month ago, two more are expected to arrive “in the fall.” The acquisition of these advanced systems will create a more robust defense against Russian missile and drone attacks.
The fall agenda also includes expanding the military partnership in new directions. Zelensky confirmed that talks will begin for the US to purchase Ukrainian drones, a move that could provide a major boost to Ukraine’s defense industry. Furthermore, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will visit the US in October to discuss economic investment.
These planned activities for the autumn—negotiating for offensive weapons, receiving defensive systems, and fostering economic ties—demonstrate a comprehensive and forward-looking strategy. They show a country focused on building the military and economic strength needed to secure its sovereignty.
