Italy Resumes Mission at Rafah Crossing as Gaza Reopens Under Peace Plan

by admin477351

Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto announced that Italy’s mission at the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will resume operations as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. The reopening, scheduled for October 14, 2025, will allow controlled movement of people and humanitarian aid between the two regions.

Italy’s Carabinieri police will participate through the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) at Rafah. According to Crosetto, the crossing will operate alternately in two directions—outbound to Egypt and inbound to Gaza—ensuring steady humanitarian access while maintaining regional security protocols.

Crosetto confirmed that approximately 600 aid trucks will continue entering Gaza daily from other routes, while civilian passage will be permitted beyond medical emergencies, subject to prior approval from Israel and Egypt.

The move marks a significant step in implementing the Gaza peace framework, focusing on restoring logistics, facilitating relief operations, and strengthening international coordination for stability in the region.
