Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after her government marked a historic milestone, becoming the longest continuously serving administration in the Italian Republic’s history. Erdoğan commended Meloni for achieving this record and expressed his optimism about the continued strengthening of ties and collaboration between Türkiye and Italy.

Prime Minister Meloni’s government reached 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second tenure from 2001 to 2005. Meloni, who became Italy’s first female prime minister in October 2022, has since cultivated a close relationship with Erdoğan, engaging regularly in discussions on both bilateral and regional matters.

Under Meloni’s leadership, Türkiye and Italy have sought to enhance cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, defence, energy, and migration. The two nations have also coordinated on regional issues, notably in Libya and Ukraine, showcasing their commitment to addressing shared challenges.

In April 2025, the leaders co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome, where they signed multiple agreements aimed at bolstering their strategic and economic partnership. This summit marked a significant step in solidifying their cooperation on various fronts.

Most recently, Erdoğan and Meloni met on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed their intentions to boost trade, increase mutual investment, and strengthen collaborations in defence and other strategic sectors. Their ongoing dialogue reflects a mutual commitment to deepening the enduring relationship between the two countries.
